FOREWARN Disaster Hackathon 1.0

Description:

FOREWARN Disaster Hackathon 1.0 brought together a remarkable assembly of all people passionate about the humanitarian cause and believe that innovation and technology can be the answer to the risks raised by natural disasters. Participants of FOREWARN Disaster Hackathon 1.0 competed across three stages: 

CREATE (6 July - 15 August, 2023):

A total of 21 challenges in the field of disaster were presented for interested participants to select from. The participating teams came up with solutions to their chosen challenge. The goal was to turn these ideas into working prototypes. They shared their concepts through short 2-minute videos and submitted them online to compete in the hackathon.

CHECK (20 August - 10 September, 2023):

Selected teams moved on to the CHECK phase, where they carefully examined how practical and effective their solutions were. Through FOREWARN Bangladesh’s network, they talked to government officials, representatives from non-governmental organisations (NGOs), international non-governmental organisations (INGOs), businesses, and the communities they aimed to help. The teams also got guidance from experts in disaster management and technology arranged by FOREWARN Bangladesh and Open Mapping Hub-Asia Pacific.

CULTIVATE (24 September - 26 September, 2023):

The best teams advanced to the CULTIVATE stage, where they participated in a 3-day residential workshop held in Dhaka and received valuable in-person mentorship provided by experts in disaster management and technology. Participants personally interacted with FOREWARN Bangladesh and Open Mapping Hub - Asia Pacific teams, engaged in cross-team activities, built their prototypes from scratch and passionately presented their innovations before the judges to compete for the winning prize.
